  • Reefer containers are generally allowed 2 free days of storage
  • Pier storage varies by Carriers, Terminals and Ports

Two Main types of Ocean Cargo

  • LCL- Less than container load
    1. Various importers consolidate their small cargo into one container to save on shipping costs. While this option allows for some savings, the overall costs should also be considered. Consolidation and Deconsolidation costs should be considered.
  • FCL- Full container load
    1. The contents of the entire container belongs to only one importer.
Importers with a good compliance history and policy in place may be less likely to have frequent customs exams and delays.

ISF 10+2 mandatory filing for containerized cargo
As part of the Safe Port Act, an Importer Security Filing is mandatory at least 24 hours prior to vessel loading. Late and non-filing are subject US Customs penalties of up to $10,000
